How to Resize a Signature for Aadhaar, PAN, and Other Online Forms
-
Last month one of my relative was applying for PAN card correction from home and he called me because the website was not accepting his signature, he had clicked the photo from his phone and the file was around 2 MB while the portal was asking for much less than that. This is actually a very common thing now since most of the people are applying for PAN, Aadhaar linked services, bank KYC and scholarship forms by themselves without going to any agent.
So first thing to understand is that every portal have its own rule for the signature file Now for PAN card, there are either NSDL or UTIITSL and they ask for JPG with a KB limit and size in cm. While some bank or scholarship form may ask for something smaller in pixels. Aadhaar itself is mostly based on fingerprint and iris, but when you use Aadhaar for other services like pension or KYC, the signature upload comes there.
So better to read the line written just below the upload button, it usually tells the format and the maximum size also, and if two portals have different limits then make two different files rather than trying to use one file for both.
Now for PAN specially, sign the same way you sign on your cheque book or bank papers. The signature on PAN card goes everywhere after that, in bank, in loan papers, in investment forms, and if it is not matching later then verification gets delayed for no reason.
For the scanning, a plain white paper without lines and a black pen works best. Keep the phone straight above the paper in daylight and click it, then crop from all sides so only the signature is left with very little margin. My relative had cropped nothing and half of his image was just the table and the paper edge, which is why the size was so big in the first place.
After cropping, I use https://signatureresize.org/ for the resizing and the whole thing was done in two minutes. You select the image, write the KB or pixel size that the portal is asking and save the file which comes out. What I personally like is that the signature does not get blurry after the size is reduced, which happens quite often in normal gallery editing apps, and it runs from the phone browser so there is no need of laptop for this.
One more small habit that helps, save the final files with names like signature-pan or signature-bank in a separate folder in your phone, because you will need them again for some other form sooner or later and then you dont have to repeat the whole process from start.
