My Daikin FTXS20K Was Running, but the Bedroom Never Got Cool
I noticed the problem on a warm evening when my Daikin FTXS20K had been running for nearly an hour, yet the bedroom still felt stuffy. The indoor unit was blowing air, the remote responded normally, and there were no obvious warning lights. I kept lowering the temperature setting, but that did not make much difference.
Rather than assume the refrigerant was low or the compressor was failing, I decided to check the things I could safely inspect myself. I wanted to establish whether the air conditioner was struggling because of airflow or settings before considering a more serious fault.
The Settings Were Not What I Expected
I began with the remote control. The unit was running, but I checked that I had selected COOL rather than FAN or DRY. Fan mode circulates room air without providing the same cooling effect, so it can easily explain why an air conditioner seems active without making the room colder.
I then selected a reasonable target temperature and increased the airflow from its quiet setting. I also adjusted the louvres so the air could circulate around the room rather than blowing into a nearby wall.
Next, I checked the doors and windows. One window was not fully closed, and warm air was entering around the frame. I shut it and waited to see whether the room temperature began to change.
The improvement was modest, so I moved on to the filter.
The Manual Helped Me Narrow Down the Cause
When I opened the indoor unit's front panel, I found that the filters had accumulated a layer of dust. I switched the air conditioner off before cleaning them and followed the care instructions for my model.
I checked the instructions for the Daikin FTXS20K on daikin.manymanuals.com, particularly the maintenance and troubleshooting sections. They recommend checking whether the air filters are clean, whether the indoor and outdoor air inlets and outlets are obstructed, and whether the temperature and airflow settings are appropriate.
I removed the filters carefully, cleaned them according to the manufacturer's instructions and allowed them to dry completely before reinstalling them. I also checked that curtains and furniture were not blocking the indoor unit's air intake or outlet.
I did not open the electrical compartment or attempt to inspect refrigerant lines. Those are not routine homeowner checks, and working on them without the right qualifications can be dangerous.
The Test That Made the Difference
After reinstalling the filters, I selected COOL mode, set the temperature appropriately and let the unit run without constantly changing the controls. The airflow felt stronger, and the room began cooling more effectively.
That suggested the dirty filters and restricted circulation had contributed to the problem. It did not prove that the air conditioner had no other issues, but the improvement meant I did not need to jump straight to an expensive repair.
I also learned not to judge cooling performance from the first few minutes alone. A room that has absorbed heat throughout the day can take time to cool, especially if sunlight is coming through the windows or heat is entering from adjacent rooms.
My Daikin FTXS20K Troubleshooting Checklist
If your unit runs but does not cool properly, I would check these points in order:
Select COOL mode. Confirm that the unit is not simply circulating air in FAN mode.
Check the temperature setting. Choose a sensible target and allow time for the room to respond.
Increase airflow if necessary. A quiet or low fan setting may not circulate enough air for the conditions.
Clean the air filters. Follow the model's instructions and reinstall the filters only when dry.
Clear the air paths. Remove obstacles near the indoor and outdoor units without touching internal components.
Close windows and doors. Reduce the amount of warm air entering the room.
If the air conditioner still cannot cool after these checks, a technician may need to investigate sensors, the outdoor unit, refrigerant levels or other internal components.
Daikin FTXS20K: Quick FAQ
Why does the unit blow air without cooling the room?
The unit may be in FAN mode, have dirty filters, restricted airflow or an unsuitable temperature setting. If those factors are ruled out, a technical fault may be responsible.
Can dirty filters cause more than weak airflow?
Yes. Restricted airflow can reduce cooling performance and may contribute to other operating problems. Regular maintenance helps the unit work as intended.
Should I keep lowering the temperature setting?
Not necessarily. Setting an extremely low target does not fix blocked airflow or a technical fault. Check the operating mode, filters and room conditions first.
