What is Star Schema, in simple terms, is a widely-used approach to structuring data in a warehouse. Typically, it will contain a single fact table that is linked to a number of dimension tables. The fact table holds detailed data (such as sales, transactions), and dimensions provide information about the fact table (such as customers, products, and dates). That's because the shape resembles a star and that's where the name originated. Reporting and analytics may be simpler due to the fact that queries tend to be very simple. If you are looking for hands-on tips and tricks in data modeling and warehouse design, Datalance may come in handy as well.
