So I've had my GLE for about three years now and it's been mostly trouble-free, but I've just hit 75,000 kms and I'm starting to get those little niggles that make me nervous – a slight shudder when accelerating from a stop, and sometimes the gearbox feels a bit clunky in first and second. I know the dealership will charge me an arm and a leg just for a diagnostic, so I'm hoping to find a good Mercedes maintenance specialist in Khalifa City who actually knows these cars inside out and doesn't treat every customer like a walking wallet. I'm not looking for the cheapest option either – I'm willing to pay fair money for quality work and genuine parts, I just want someone who'll be upfront about what needs doing now versus what can wait. The thing that worries me is that I've taken my previous car to a few independent garages and they always seemed to find "urgent" issues that magically disappeared when I got a second opinion. Has anyone here found a workshop around Khalifa City that really understands the 9G-Tronic transmission and doesn't just throw parts at the problem? Also, do they usually let you bring your own parts if you find a good deal elsewhere, or do they insist on sourcing everything themselves? Really appreciate any honest feedback because I'm dreading the whole process to be honest.

Shudder pulling away plus a clunky 1-2 shift on a 9G-Tronic at 75k km is very often a software adaptation or old fluid issue, not a failing gearbox. Ask for a scan of the transmission module and a fluid check before anyone talks about parts. A proper service with the correct ATF is cheap compared to a rebuild.

Had a GLC do the same around 70k and a specialist found it was just stale fluid and a drifted adaptation. After a drain and fill with the right spec and a relearn, it shifted like new. Ask what fluid they use and get the part number on the invoice.

Bringing your own parts is a gamble. Most decent shops will refuse or give you no warranty on the labour if the part fails, and cheap online parts are where genuine-looking fakes slip in. Better to ask them for an OEM versus branded aftermarket price and pick between those two.

“Urgent” issues that vanish at the next garage usually mean the first shop is padding. Ask any place to show you the worn part on the lift, give you the fault codes on paper, and split the list into must-do now and can-wait. An honest shop does that without being pushed.

Does the shudder happen mostly when the engine is cold or after a long drive in traffic? And does the GLE have air suspension, since that can add its own clunks over bumps? Also curious what the dealership quoted for the diagnostic, so people here can tell you if it’s really that high.
